Welcome to Ethics Artificial Intelligence and Geography (GEODEM-AI).
This module has been developed to address democratic principles, civic engagement, and social responsibility when using Artificial Intelligence (AI) in Geography and geographic education.
GEODEM (Geography, Democracy and Education in a digital world) has been a EUROGEO initiative enabled under the highly prestigious Jean Monnet Action which in 2022 supported European associations that were representative of the academic community in European Union studies at regional, national or supranational level.
GEODEM was supported to promote the activities of EUROGEO connecting Geography, Democracy and Education in a digital world. Find out more
This module is concerned with digital data literacy, introducing ethical issues related to the use of AI in geography studies and research (GeoAI)..
Its development has been funded by the Civics Innovation Fund.
Ethics Artificial Intelligence and Geography (GEODEM-AI) is divided into 5 units:
– GeoAI, AI in Geography
– Foundations of AI Ethics
– Ethical AI in the Geo-curriculum
– Case Study: AI and Deforestation
– Case Study: Flooding and AI
GeoAI combines geospatial data with artificial intelligence to help analyse spatial patterns, allowing mapping, environmental monitoring, and decision-making to be significantly enhanced.
However there are some notable ethical concerns related to AI which need to be understood and addressed through education and training. Many people are worried about the impacts of AI, including education. This Module seeks to help unpack some of these concerns.
Activity: A number of organisations support the use of AI in education, check them out and the services the different organisations offer.
