Digital Earth

Digital Earth has been used as a term to envision a comprehensive, interactive, and multi-dimensional virtual representation of the Earth.

It integrates vast amounts of geospatial data, real-time observations, and advanced simulations . Digital Earth aims to make complex Earth systems accessible and understandable for everyone, from scientists and policymakers from students to citizens.

Digital Earth makes use of digital technologies to visualise, simulate, and model real-world situations. The potential for Digital Earth applications has increased significantly with the evolution of artificial intelligence systems and the capacity to collect and process large amounts of geospatial data of complex phenomena.

Destination Earth

AI is being used in the European ommission flagship initiative Destination Earth (DestinE). The aim is to develop a highly accurate digital model of the Earth on a global scale.

This model will monitor, simulate and predict the interaction between natural phenomena and human activities.

It will contribute to achieving the twi objectives of the European transition, green and digital, as part of the European Commission’s Green Deal and Digital Strategy.
